16491 No. 16491
What was I doing, you ask? Well, the MoFfets no longer scare me. Personalities are mapped, BRING IT ON YOUKAI MOUNTAIN!

"Hmm, that's a good question, actually." Her eyes light up as she looks at you, obviously pleased by your interest in the subject. "Relatively, I'm interested in native history the most, truth be told, but the history of other areas in the outside world prior to the border is fascinating too. Since the founding of the border, texts have, alarmingly, been getting rarer to find from what I can tell. Can you believe- Well, you do come from there, but I am not sure all is the same out there - How many people were out there? Consider it! THOUSANDS of people, to write and record! And without the threat of Youkai!"

[ ] Let Keine continue

[ ] "Umm, yeah, interesting. Can I ask you something else?"

“Oh, wow.” Keine breathes. You definitely have her rapt attention. “That’s amazing! How could so many people survive, however? There couldn’t be that much room! Wouldn’t they fall off the world? What have they done in that time?” Breaking quite firmly out of any shyness, she pelts you with the questions eagerly, taking an interest.

World is round won, if we count the multi choice.

“How could that be?” Keine blinks, and then frowns in thought at the idea, squinting her brown eyes a bit in concentration at nothing in particular; probably a small habit of hers. “Everyone knows the world is flat, you must be wrong.” But there is a note of uncertainty as she awaits your reply; this is probably absolutely fascinating to her.

“Do you mean to say,” asked Caspian, “that you three come from a round world (round like a ball) and you’ve never told me! It’s really too bad for you. Because we have fairy-tales in which there are round worlds and I always loved them. I never believed there were any real ones. But I’ve always wished there were and I’ve always longed to live in one. Oh, I’d give anything…If only I had the chance! It must be exciting to live on a thing like a ball. Have you ever been to the parts where people walk about upside-down?”

“That’s impossible! Are there places where people walk upside down? It seems ludicrous, I mean, how would people walk properly, and- But- You absolutely have to explain more!” She grabs you by the hand, taking you off guard by her sudden decisive action and she looks like a woman with a PURPOSE. “Come on, Mokou! We’re taking the shortcut!” She declares, walking off the normal path... With you in tow.

“What? Jeez, Keine. What got into you? You’re aware that route’s a pain to go through, not to mention being harassed by Youkai...”

“The pursuit of the history outside of Gensokyo waits for nobody! Come on!”

“Yay, Adventure!” Cirno shouts happily, eager to flutter along; the walking had been getting terrible boring to her, anyways.

I would think slowing down a little would be a good idea, lest we either get separated from everyone and lost somehow (though that might be unlikely depending on just how good a grip Keine has on us right now). It's a plant, how can it hear anything? It's probably sensitive to vibrations or body heat, perhaps it lures prey with a sweet sent.

So basically, walk without rhythm and you won't attract the worm. Cirno has the heat problem down.

Although if it is the sweet sent I do worry (9) ball is going to fly off following the sent and straight into a plant's maw.

Well, Keine, you see, The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution in the People's Republic of China was a struggle for power within the Communist Party of China that manifested into wide-scale social, political, and economic chaos, which grew to include large sections of Chinese society and eventually brought the entire country to the brink of civil war.

It was launched by Mao Zedong, the Chairman of the Communist Party of China, on May 16, 1966, officially as a campaign to rid China of its "liberal bourgeoisie" elements and to continue revolutionary class struggle. It is widely recognized, however, as a method to regain control of the party after the disastrous Great Leap Forward led to a significant loss of Mao's power to rivals Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping, and would eventually manifest into waves of power struggles between rival factions both nationally and locally.

Although Mao himself officially declared the Cultural Revolution to have ended in 1969, the term is today widely used to also include the period between 1969 and the arrest of the Gang of Four in 1976.

Within seconds, vines lash out from the ground and grab you and Cirno, tightly coiling around your arms and you are forcefully wrenched away from Keine, despite her alarmed cry and attempting to hold you closer. Mokou steps into action as fast as possible, attempting to burn the plants as fast ask she can get through without starting a major bonfire to cook all of you. Nice job, Anon.

Where the crap did you get that date?

A story from over 500 years ago.

The project refers to a plan designed and implemented by Yukari in order to restore power to the youkai of Gensokyo, who felt pressured by human expansion.

Until then Gensokyo was merely an isolated mountain place, but she planned to create the boundary between illusion and reality around Gensokyo, thus logically creating a new world.

By establishing Gensokyo as an illusionary world, and the outside as the real world, the youkai weakened by the outside world would naturally flock to Gensokyo; this was a truly epochal event.

At this time, it seems that youkai from outside of Japan immigrated to Gensokyo, as well.

>>hey maybe being a stupid useless wimp will get us points with keine so she can take care of us

I don't quite think so. That would appeal to her more nurturing side, but Anon was in dire need of something more compelling to get her willing to allow us to stay with her for more than a recovery period. Something that was of sufficient value to warrant keeping us around.

And we now seem to have it. Knowledge and information. Considering who we're dealing with, it shouldn't be surprising. So long as we can continue giving her all the info we know from the outside world, I'm sure we will be welcome under her roof.

you guys seem to forget that Keine is a human, and not very old either

she was born in gensenkyo, a world in which people were kinda distracted from science by other things, like flesh eating plants, or being frozen and shattered

That, and as she herself mentioned, texts from the outside had become increasingly rare. Unless you were connected with someone who was in a position to know about the outside after the border went up, such as Yukari or the Moriya group, naturally your knowledge of the outside would be severely limited.

"over 500 years ago" - Youkai Expansion Project
>>What you were quoting
~1503 A.D.- Remilia Scarlet's birth
~1508 A.D. - Flandre Scarlet's birth
~300 years ago - Youki Konpaku becomes Hakugyokurou's gardener
~100 years ago - period of the 8th Child of Miare, Hieda no Aya

During this time, humans begin becoming powerful enough to seriously challenge youkai
Akyuu was the first Child of Miare after the border's creation, so Aya probably died before 1885

1872-1885 A.D. - first official circulation of Japanese paper money (predates Hakurei Border)
0 (~1885 A.D.) - creation of the Great Hakurei Border

If you look at silent sinner in blue, though, it seems to line up with the current time. So unless Akyu is writing from some time in the future, it would seem that the timeline is off, given that Reimu is still alive, and I doubt that she'd live an extremely long time.

being a were creature doesn't mean it prolongs your life-span. And even if it does, she was either born in gensenkyo, or migrated to it sometime in the 500 years, maybe (probably) before the border was created.

at any case, living in gensenkyo highly reduces your chance of knowing that the world is round

I know. But, Akyu writes about Yukari forming the border FIVE HUNDRED YEARS AGO. and the current events in Silent Sinner in Blue line up with current events on the outside. Akyu is shown to be at the party that Remilia throws, So unless Ayku lives for a shit ass long time, and then is writing from 300 years in the future, the 500 years ago that the Border was set up puts it in the 1500's, not in the 1800's.

>>Over a thousand years ago, Yukari organized an army of youkai and led them in an invasion of the Moon. The youkai were subsequently routed by the Lunarians, who possessed superior technology and magic, and forced to retreat to Earth. Since that time, no youkai have attempted to expand their territory beyond Gensokyo. While some speculate that Yukari organized the invasion out of selfish hunger for territory and power, others believe she did it to teach the youkai a lesson about starting wars of conquest; namely, that it was a bad idea.

Gensokyo has been isolated place where Youkai gather for awhile. Border or no border.

Also, the subject of the moon invasion would probably kill any doubt Keine has over the spherical nature of the world.
